Since the inception of the Colchester Community Food Shelf, there has been unwavering support from the Colchester churches, residents, students, volunteers and businesses both local and within the Chittenden area. This support clearly demonstrates a community truly committed toward those less fortunate as well as those experiencing a temporary setback.
It is unclear, however, if we are meeting the needs of our senior citizens who might be in the difficult position of having to choose between paying for high-priced prescription medicine or food. At the same time, we have a similar concern for families with young children who might be eligible for the 3SquareVT program. It is human nature to pride ourselves in being self sufficient. However, we need to help them understand we are here to serve them.
Our hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 11 – 1:30 p.m., and Wednesday, 3:30 – 6 p.m.
Mary Ellen Tamulonis is on the CCFS board.
