John Garth Cummings, age 35, of Grand Rapid, Mich., died on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, due to injuries sustained in a work-related incident.
He is survived by his wife, Heidi; his two sons Atticus and Ansel, as well as his mother, Kathleen; father, Curtis; and brother, Ira.
Garth, as everybody knew him, was well liked for his generosity, kindness, honesty and fairness with which he treated everybody that he met. A life-long adventurer, he was passionate about experiencing the outdoors while riding a bicycle, hiking or skiing with his family and friends.
He was also passionate about his work as a dairy veterinarian, the study of which brought him from his native Vermont to New York, where he completed graduate studies at Cornell University, and then to Texas where he met his wife. They married in Texas, started a family, and recently relocated to the Grand Rapids area where he has practiced veterinary medicine for area dairies.
He was dearly loved by family, friends, and colleagues alike and will be greatly missed. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Garth Cummings Memorial Fund at Grand River Bank (4471 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, MI 49418) to benefit his sons’ education.
Funeral arrangements are by Zaagman Memorial Chapel, Grand Rapids, Mich.
