A portion of River Road will be discontinued as Town Highway and reconstructed into a new shared-use path.

The selectboard visited the site, spoke with neighbors, and held a short hearing on Sept. 24 before voting to approve discontinuance of the road.

In April this year, the development review board approved a development project in the area, separate from the town, for 12 new residential units. The portion of the road in question is currently used as an unofficial unpaved footpath for folks in the neighborhood and has not been used by cars in years. Some neighboring residents who joined the site visit expressed interest in the added privacy the dissolution of the road could provide for their respective driveways.

The selectboard must visit a site whenever proposing discontinuance of town road, according to Town Manager Aaron Frank, however a vote is not necessary. The housing development project is expected to be completed in 2020, according to the project application.
