Three members of the Vermont Lake Monsters baseball team read a picture book to a full house of about 40 eager young fans last Thursday morning at the Burnham Library.
Clad in green and black Lake Monster gear, infielders Jonah Bride and Max Schuemann and outfielder Noah Vaughan passed around “Randy Riley’s Really Big Hit,” each reading a page and showing off the artwork to the crowd.
Before reading, the players answered questions from the children in the audience. They talked about their dreams and goals for their baseball careers, their favorite professional teams as well as tips for the young fans who wanted to grow up to be baseball players, too.
After the discussion and story time, the Lake Monsters signed gear, T-shirts and memorabilia for the crowd. Even Champ came along to give hugs and take photos.
Players from the Lake Monsters come to the Burnham Library every summer to read to children, and it’s always a popular event.
