police2A St. Albans man who police say robbed a Colchester convenience store is in custody after a Vermont State Police K9 tracked him through the woods Wednesday evening, a news release said.

Police say Joshua Ferraro, 33, stole cash from the Sunny Hollow Quick Stop register before fleeing into a wooded area across the road, leaving a shoe behind.

The store’s clerk received minor injuries during the incident, the news release said.

Colchester Officer Victor Bitca responded to a panic alarm at the scene, where he was met by Vermont State Police Trooper Brittany Barone and her K9, Kimbra.

Kimbra led the officers a mile into the woods, where they located and arrested Ferraro.

He was cited for assault and robbery and is set to appear in Chittenden Superior Court – Criminal Division on Thursday morning, the news release said.

Colchester Rescue examined Ferraro at the scene for minor injuries and cold exposure, the news release said.

Police say the money was recovered and the incident is still under investigation.
