The Lakers rolled into their fifth straight girls soccer semifinal, riding three goals from Madison Finelli and two from Emma Corriveau in a 6-1 victory over visiting Mt. Anthony Union on Friday afternoon.

Corriveau got No. 3 seed Colchester started with just 5:25 gone in the Oct. 26 match with a well-earned goal, following up a teammate’s line drive off the crossbar by stealing the ball from a defender before it could be cleared, then driving a shot past the onrushing goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.

Finelli helped put the tired Patriots away with her hat trick, while Jordan Clark also picked up a goal for CHS.

The Laker midfield controlled the play throughout, allowing just one shot on goal for goalies Olivia Moore and EmmaKate O’Donnell.

Mt. Anthony was less than 72 hours removed from a marathon first-round contest in Bennington against Rutland on Wednesday. After 110 minutes the teams went to penalty kicks, a four-round shootout that included a lightning delay, which helped push the match well beyond three hours.

The victory sent No. 3 Colchester (12-4) on to a semifinal at home Oct. 30 against No. 7 Essex, which upset Mt. Mansfield in a quarterfinal shootout.
