With a roster dotted with many sixth- and seventh-graders, Coach Jim Olson may have thought that his team was one year away from success when it came to wins and loses. “It is true, that our team is very young in comparison to some of the other teams we play, but hard work and the leadership of a couple eighth-graders have been key for us.” Big wins this past week over L.C. Hunt and Essex middle schools have pushed the Lady Cougars record to 8-3 on the season, with only a few regular season games to go and the Albert D. Lawton school tournament at the end of the month. In the L.C. Hunt game the Cougars opened up a halftime lead of 28-14 and never looked back. Kelli Cieplicki paced the team with a game high 24 points, while Nicole Norton contributed 10. “Kelli and Nicole, both just sixth-graders, have been tremendous this year, while Bella Jarvis and Taylor Karpinski have led our defense with their hard work on the glass.” Colchester ended the week with a win over the Eagles of Essex middle school 31-26. Again Kelli Cieplicki led the team with 13 points while Bella Jarvis chipped in 6.
