A Colchester resident was charged with simple assault after physically assaulting a 16-year-old student at the Burlington Technical Center last November, Vermont State Police said in a press release Friday.

David Scibek, 52, allegedly applied a “pressure point technique” on the student on the morning of November 29, causing her to fall out of her chair and strike her back on a metal computer cabinet, police said. The student complained of pain and sought medical treatment outside of the school, according to the release.

VSP began investigating the following day.

Scibek is a criminal justice program instructor at BTC, the release said. He is the former chief of the Malletts Bay Fire Department and was a detective with the Burlington Police Department. VSP is withholding the name of the victim.

Scibek is scheduled to appear in Chittenden County Superior Court on February 1 at 8:30 a.m.
