Colchester police are investigating a single-car crash that occurred around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, shutting down Route 15 near St. Michael’s College, a news release said.

Police say the driver, 21-year old Evan Harwood, hit a utility pole after leaving the roadway on College Parkway, just west of Lime Kiln Road. According to CPD, alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.

Fair Point Communications helped clear strewn utility wires across both east and westbound lanes, the news release said.

St. Michael’s Fire and Rescue, Colchester Center Fire, Vermont Air Guard Fire Rescue and Essex and Winooski police departments assisted.

The area was reopened to traffic without delays as of 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, a press release said.

Harwood, a New Hartford, Conn. resident, was transported, treated and released from the University of Vermont Medical Center, according to the release.
