A 32-year-old Colchester woman was killed when an Amtrak train hit her car around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Colchester police said in a news release.

Police say Erin Allen’s 2008 Kia Rio crossed in front of a northbound Amtrak train at a marked crossing on Depot Road. The train struck the driver’s side of the vehicle, pushing it approximately 150 feet down the track, the news release said.

Allen was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

No injuries were reported among the train’s five passengers. They were transported by taxi to their destination in St. Albans, a news release said.

Depot Road and the tracks, owned by the New England Central Railroad, were closed for about four hours. The Colchester Center Volunteer Fire Company and Colchester Rescue assisted police at the scene, the news release said.

The incident remains under investigation by both Amtrak and Colchester police. Anyone with information is asked to call 264-5555.
