Burlington police arrested a Colchester woman for driving under the influence after she crashed her vehicle and left the scene with her two children in tow.

Rachel Oldinski, 35, was traveling southbound on North Avenue when she rear-ended a vehicle in traffic. She then left the scene, eventually stopping after she was followed by the vehicle she hit, police said.

Police took Oldinski into custody after she showed signs of alcohol impairment, a news release said. Her two children, ages 3 and 6, were in the car at the time but were not injured. They were released to a family member, police said.

A breath sample showed Oldinski’s blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit of .08, a news release said. Police cited her for DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and cruelty to children under 10 by one over 16.

Oldinski was lodged at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility. Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash or subsequent events to contact Cpl. Will Drinkwine at 540-3302.
