Colchester drivers involved in interstate collision

Vermont State Police say two Colchester residents were involved in a four-car crash on Interstate 89’s Exit 15 on Monday evening.

An initial investigation revealed at around 5:30 p.m. a dark colored pickup truck cut onto the Exit 15 off-ramp at the last minute, the release said, requiring 60-year-old Colchester resident Bonnie Laferriere to brake.

VSP said the move triggered a chain reaction. Two other drivers, including 28-year-old Tyler Traquair of Colchester, subsequently applied their brakes.

The other driver, a New Jersey resident, swerved left to avoid hitting Traquair and was struck by a fourth vehicle, according to the release.

The operator of the fourth vehicle was transported to University of Vermont Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, the release said.

As a result of the crash, police said traffic became heavy in the corridor between Exits 13 and 15. “Due to driver inattention to the roadway and traffic conditions,” three more minor collisions occurred in the area, according to the press release.

No injuries were reported in the subsequent collisions. The crash is still under investigation, police said.
