Appoint rather than elect On March 6 Colchester voters will be asked to approve a change to the town charter that would allow the selectboard to approve the appointment of the town clerk/treasurer. For many decades the clerk/treasurer has been elected. The Colchester Governance Committee reviewed the merits of an appointed official compared to continuing to elect a person to the position and unanimously decided to recommend a charter change which lost by only 13 votes in the November 2014 election. REP. CURT TAYLOR The Colchester Town Meeting is next week. Monday evening, March 5, is the free lasagna dinner at the high school. Tuesday is for voting. School and municipal board members and budgets take center stage throughout Vermont. Colchester will also vote on a charter change on whether to make the town clerk an appointed position. Lakers’ senior night celebration followed up by tough loss to the Hornets

The Lakers’ played their last home game this past Thursday, honoring the seniors on the team before taking the court against the Hornets. A last embrace between teammates on home court before the game represents the emotional atmosphere during the senior night recognitions. Despite the best efforts of the Lakers, they fell to  Essex 42-54.
